I find your idea about the collectivistic vs. individualistic cultures so fascinating! And I very much agree with your interpretation when it comes to why some victims of ab*se don't leave their toxic homes. And I would only like to add - as a European, coming from a middle European country and culture - that despite what you might think, a lot more cultures in Europe are collectivistically minded than you might expect. Especially during the time period that this Cinderella adaptation is situated at. The original idea of Cinderella is hard to pinpoint - some say France, some say one of the Germanic-speaking regions - but the main version and especially the one Disney was inspired by comes from the brothers Grimm fairytales. The Grimms were German and coming from Germany myself, I can tell you that we still have a lot of collectivistically minded cultural conventions and mindsets. We have this modern idea that Germany is an individualistic culture, but actually that's a rather recent occurrence. Traditionally Germany had a bigger emphasis on the community and not sticking out in a negative way. I don't know how it is for France though... But even with this approach, I would say that during that time period in any European area the socio-economic structures hardly would've allowed a young woman to be out fending for herself without connections or a husband. Even in the 1950s, when the Disney version came out, it would've been a hard thing to find. We tend to judge these stories through such a progressive lens, that we tend to forget that this whole push for advancement and progression in gender equality is barely 50 - 60 years old - which historically speaking is a barely a blip.

For every bad thing that you can say about Roberto the show runner of riverdale and there are many many things that you can say. I feel that he also did the older teacher dates younger student but he had the sense to have one of his other student characters turn in the older teacher. I was in high school then and remember a guy coaching our football was became a teacher with only 2-year college degree (he was 20), i oldest student in our school was 19. i thought it was possible to be close enough in age for this to be possible. I totally agree with everything, the romanticization and normalization that they gave to an issue as serious as the relationship between an adult and a minor is incredible, Honestly, after thinking about why the writers or producers, directors or whoever, I came to the conclusion that seemed the most obvious to me since the entire show got away with it and that is that it is the fantasy of someone with a lot of money and power to create this, and it's so disgusting that no one has been "canceled" for this, it's so hypocritical By the way, the relationship between Lorenzo and Ali should have also been mentioned, he clearly looks like he's 30 something Regarding Ezra, there were times when I fast forwarded the episode so as not to see him, those maniacal eyes and cynical smile of his, before he was "the villain", he was creepy, never liked him

guys, maybe like most relationships in the show were adult /minor is cuz like, maybe, possibly, the ppl writing it wwre ped0s. like i honestly can't think of another reason at this point.
